From our sellers’ point of view
It’s true that many Brits who already own in Spain have been concerned about the consequences of Brexit. However, every single house we have sold in Busot for Brits who have been returning to the UK, the vendors have been leaving Spain for other reasons, nothing to do with Brexit; to see more of the grand kids and for health reasons are the two most common reasons. It’s only been occasionally that we’ve heard the secondary reason of “oh and also in case things turn bad for us post-Brexit”.
From our buyers’ point of view
Meanwhile, when you ask British buyers “Were you not put off by the Brexit-scare?” the response is amazing and normally consists of something along the lines of “I’m not going to let those political numpties ruin my dream life in the sun”!! I saw a number of Brits speed up their plans to move to Spain to get it all done before the end of March, but even those who weren’t able to make the move within that timeframe have not lost any of their enthusiasm.
Should I apply for Spanish residency?
I’ve noticed that British buyers have recently been really organised about getting their residency appointments whereas, before all this Brexit talk, there was perhaps more complacency and buyers prioritised furnishing their new place rather than getting on with bureaucratic tasks. But at the end of the day, if you are going to reside in Spain for more than 180 days per year, it’s got to be done at some point, Brexit or no Brexit, so it hasn’t changed anything there.
Will Brexit turn living in Busot into a nightmare?
Although it’s still not clear what is actually happening about Brexit and what the effects are going to be, for us Busot residents we know that we don’t need to worry… We already know that whilst our friends and family back in Britain are putting up with a miserably cold April and only have a few days of sunshine in the summer to look forward to, we enjoy the sun’s rays almost every day of the year and have a good 6 months of alfresco dining and relaxing by the pool to look forward to…whilst our friends back in Blighty spend hours in traffic jams and are bombarded by consumerism in the form of a million Easter eggs in the shops from February and Christmas presents on the shelves shortly after, we are living in the simplicity of Busot, breathing fresh air and enjoying the outdoors.
Will Brexit ruin life in Busot? Will it heck!
