Life in Busot by the women who live here.

“The best thing about Busot; meeting my partner (!) and my fruit trees… the fact that I have a garden big enough for so many fruit trees, for me, is a real luxury that just wouldn’t be possible back in the UK or down on the coast!” Sally Williamson, (British) Owner of “The Salon” in Busot, has lived in Busot for 13 years

"I love the simple things; the kind people, the smell of the almond flowers, the peace and quiet that relaxes me at the end of a stressful day. This is just a short summary of my town Busot.” Alma Armengol Llinares

(Spanish), Sociologist and Treasury of the Salmitre Heritage Association in Busot, Wife of José Antonio, Mother of two children, has lived in Busot all her life.

“Quite simply, what Busot offers is quality of life.”Sophie D Hoop (Belge), a Volunteer at two local charities, has lived in Busot for 20 years.

“The views! The views here are just incredible…. Every day the mountains are a different color… just beautiful!” Julia Ariaans (Dutch), Mobile Pedicure and Massage Therapist, Julia Feet & Carehas lived in Busot for 5 years.

“The atmosphere during festival time – I love the way that everyone comes together (all different nationalities) – we know how to throw a party in Busot! Equally, I’ve always found that your neighbors are there for you during the bad times.” Carmen Belmonte Marin(Spanish), Wife of Manolo Aranda Martinezowner of Aranda Cerrillo construction, originally from San Juan, has lived in Busot for 40 years.

“The fact that my children are going to have a real childhood, the kind of childhood I had, the kind of childhood that you don’t seem to get in so many places now… where they can run around and be safe.”Victoria Jones (British) Owner of Villa Bella Vista, Busot’s beautiful Self-Catering Accommodation for large groups, has lived in Busot for 31 years.

“One of many wonderful things about living in Busot is how friendly the people are here.”Alex Le KyHuong Moulin (French), Acupuncturist and Owner of Spirit of Ardilla self-catering accommodation and Acupuncturist, has lived in Busot for nearly 1 year.

“The climate; we don’t have the harsh, sea winds and humidity of the coast in the winter and we have a comfortable temperate in the summer as it’s a few degrees cooler and we have a wonderful gentle breeze that you don’t get in the coastal towns.”Elsa Faticone (French) Manager of Athena Design Construction et Décoration, member of Barc Charity for Dogs, has lived in Busot for 2 years.

“Walking in the countryside and mountains; we are spoilt for choice of beautiful places to walk all around Busot.”Melanie Gramer (German), Online Psychologist at CrecimientoPersonal, has lived in Busot for 2 years.

“The three amazing children’s playgrounds; each one provides something special with stunning views of the mountains, plenty of space, and beautiful activities for the children.” Anca Roxana (Romanian), an Online Language Teacher and mother of 2-year-old Celia, has lived in Busot for 2 months.

“When I moved to Busot, it was the first time I’d lived in a small town. And what amazed me the most was how easy it was to get things done; dealing with the town hall to complete my ‘padron’ for example or enrolling my son into the crèche… and everyone has always made me feel very welcome here, from my English neighbors to all the other mums that I’ve met.”Cristina Domingo Cristobal (Spanish), Mobile Physiotherapist, originally from Madrid, has lived in Busot for 3 years.

“The sunrise and the sunsets in Busot are spectacular… the fact that my daughter can have the kind of childhood where she can play safely in the town and the countryside with her friends… the fact that children, their parents, and their grandparents all come together and enjoy our town festivals as a whole family…the quality of life we have here is priceless.”Alicia González Falero (Spanish), originally from the Canary Islands, owner of self-catering accommodation ‘Casa Rural La Canaria’, has lived in Busot for 13 years.

“I feel like I live in paradise; The mountain in my backyard, the silence, the beautiful sunsets, the sweet smell of almond blossom, and the cries of the great spotted cuckoo or the little owl inspire me every day.” Bea Lutje Schipholt (Dutch) Writer and Editor, has lived in Busot for 10 years.

The bad points…

However, Bea points out that at first, she found it difficult to meet the village people (not foreigners, but the actual people from Busot). I urge anyone who would like to meet more people in general or mingle with people from Busot, to get in touch with me on my personal Facebook page: Kate Hepworth. I will introduce you to different networks, social circles, activities, etc so that you can get to know your fellow Busoteros!

Meanwhile, Cristina points out that there isn’t a very large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables available in Busot (although the produce in the village shop is very good and the best shop-bought figs I have ever tasted came from there!). Again, I have a solution… there is an amazing organic fruit and vegetable farm in Mutchamel and if I can find 3 further families who would like to place regular orders in Busot they will deliver here to us for free… Please get in touch, if this is something you would be interested in.

And I have to finish the blog with this wonderful comment from Christine Williams(British) who replied to my question with this:

I love that Busot is a genuine Spanish village. It has everything you could wish for; bars, cafes, restaurants, architecture, nature, heritage and is nestled amongst beautiful mountains. Busot is just simply beautiful. It has been my home for 15 years, so I would say to anyone who is thinking of moving to Busot, “Don't wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect” because that is just what Busot is; PERFECT!
